This durian fruit ice cream is delicious! Because of the custard texture of the durian, it turned out more like a pudding than an ice cream or smoothie bowl. The smell is quite strong and there is a savory flavor mixed with sweet in the durian fruit, which causes many people to hate it. Some people love it, though. We got a frozen durian from a local Asian market. It had been frozen and shipped from Thailand, so we let it thaw overnight. Durian is a tropical fruit, popular in Southeast Asia, where they call it the “king of fruits.” Some describe the flavor as a combination of cheese, almonds, garlic, and caramel. I loved it, though. How to Open Durian Fruit

The spikes are pretty sharp, so you may need a potholder to handle it. Each durian fruit is divided into four to six pods. Cut along the outside of a pod until you can pull it away. You can also open it without a knife, if it’s ripe enough. Just find a seam for a pod and pry it apart with your fingers.   • 1 pod of durian

  • 1 cup frozen mangoes

  • 1 cup nut milk

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 2 ripe bananas

  • 1 tsp vanilla
