After getting enough sunshine to help your body create vitamin D, we recommend moving to the shade or applying natural sunscreen. Most sunscreens contain harmful chemicals, like oxybenzone, that disrupt our hormones or cause toxicity. Only two active sunscreen ingredients are generally recognized as safe and effective (GRASE) by the FDA. They are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The DIY sunscreen recipe below contains zinc oxide and other healthy, natural ingredients. If you happen to get too much sun, we also have a DIY sunburn cream recipe. It will sooth your skin and help reduce peeling. Enjoy that fresh air, sunshine, and vitamin D, but use these natural creams to avoid skin damage.
Tips for Saving Money on Essential Oils
The best essential oils are quite expensive. Well known Multilevel Marketing (MLM) companies, such as Young Living and doTERRA, have excellent oils. But the sticker shock can be overwhelming sometimes. Rocky Mountain Oils (RMO) and Revive are online companies that seek to cut out the middle man and give the same quality oils at lower prices. We look for superior oil at the best price, so we have oils from several different companies, especially RMO. We are still looking into Revive. All of these mentioned meet the criteria of having 100% pure, therapeutic-grade oils that have been thoroughly third-party tested and are either organic or wild crafted without pesticides.
The links in the recipe below take you to suggested ingredients. But do your own research and find the best deal at the best quality. These ingredients will total more than buying a natural sunscreen. However, they will make several batches that could save money in the long run. Decide based on your current financial situation. Also, you can use the leftover oils in our future DIY natural cosmetic recipes.
