We got a frozen durian from a local Asian market. It had been frozen and shipped from Thailand, so we let it thaw overnight. Durian is a tropical fruit, popular in Southeast Asia, where they call it the “king of fruits.” Some describe the flavor as a combination of cheese, almonds, garlic, and caramel. I loved it, though. How to Open Durian Fruit
The spikes are pretty sharp, so you may need a potholder to handle it. Each durian fruit is divided into four to six pods. Cut along the outside of a pod until you can pull it away. You can also open it without a knife, if it’s ripe enough. Just find a seam for a pod and pry it apart with your fingers. 1 frozen banana
